Courthouse records indicate that Dirk Pauels purchased "the southeast quarter of the North west quarter of Section No. 20 in Township No. 8 North of the base line of Range No. 7 East of the fourth principal meridian containing 40 acres be the same more or less." This acreage is slightly north of the St. John Lutheran Church and approximately one mile to the west. It lies directly west of the present Greater Peoria Airport. Later in his life, the land was sold and Dirk Pauels moved into the city of Peoria.

In this census taken August 16th Dirk 50 yrs (this is inaccurate) and Lena 48 yrs (also inaccurate) have Gertrude 21 yrs living at home. Additionally Jordan Uphoff 30 yrs is living with them. Dirk states his Value of Real Estate is $1000 and Value of Personal Estate is $625. Jordan Uphoff is working for Dirk as a Farm Hand and states his Value of Personal Estate is $200.
